Types of skills

Skills (competencies) are your currency—the wealth you can accumulate in the Wallet. They are the core element of the Skill Wallet. In Dokimazo, every competency has a defined structure, may come from recognized taxonomies, and includes information about context, linked evidence, and how it is used within the platform.

What is a skill in Dokimazo

In Dokimazo, a skill represents a competence that can be declared, documented, validated, and organized.

Unlike a simple list of “things you can do”, each skill is a trackable information unit, rich in evolving data and shareable, which can include:

  • A title
  • A description
  • The type (ability or knowledge)
  • An origin (who created it)
  • A possible taxonomy affiliation
  • A timeline of evidence
  • A role within the personal or organizational profile

Titles and descriptions

Each skill may have:

  • A short title (e.g., “Project management”)
  • A description clarifying its meaning or scope, either written by the user or suggested by Dokipilot when generated with assistance

This helps distinguish similar skills and standardize data for future analysis or comparisons.

Types of skills

In Dokimazo, skills can be classified along two main axes:

1. Based on the nature of the competence

  • Abilities: operational know-how, practical capabilities (e.g., “Using CAD software”)
  • Knowledge: theoretical understanding, learned content (e.g., “Principles of thermodynamic physics”)

2. Based on the role in the Wallet

  • Validated skills: competencies you have actually developed and documented
  • Skills to validate: competencies you are working to develop or that represent goals in your path

Origin and taxonomies

Each skill includes an indicator of its origin:

  • User name: skills entered manually or with the help of Dokipilot
  • Organization name: skills received from companies or training institutions
  • Derived from an official taxonomy: currently ESCO, and in the future also DigComp, EntreComp, LifeComp, Erasmusness, GreenComp, or others

When a skill is part of a recognized taxonomy:

  • Its original ID is displayed (e.g., ESCO URI)
  • The official description is preserved
  • It is identifiable by specific badges or labels in the UI

Timeline of evidence

Each skill can be enriched with a timeline of evidence that documents:

  • When it was acquired
  • Where it was applied
  • In which contexts it was validated

This timeline not only increases the credibility of the skill, but also helps show its development over time.

Role of skills in the Wallet

Skills are not static elements. In Dokimazo, each skill:

  • Can be part of one or more skill sets
  • Can be highlighted as a Top Skill
  • Can be shared publicly or kept private
  • Can be linked to organizational qualifications or learning paths

In this way, the Skill Wallet is not just a passive container, but a true dynamic map of your competencies, customizable, verifiable, and future-oriented.

Reserved skills

Some competencies may be marked as “reserved”, meaning:

  • They were created by an organization (not the user)
  • They can be assigned only within a qualification
  • They cannot be modified directly by the user

Reserved skills are used to accurately represent the content of a corporate role or a training path defined by an institution.

They appear in the Wallet with a lock icon in the upper right corner of the skill card, indicating their origin and reserved nature.
