Skill taxonomies in Dokimazo

Taxonomies are classification systems that make it possible to describe competencies in a consistent and recognized way. In Dokimazo, they ensure that the skills stored in Skill Wallets are understandable, comparable, and interoperable at both national and international levels.

What taxonomies are

  • A taxonomy is an organized catalogue of competencies, with clear definitions and unique identifiers.
  • Each skill added through a taxonomy has an official reference, making it understandable and recognizable outside an individual organization or person.
  • This helps avoid synonyms or ambiguous descriptions of competencies.

Which taxonomies Dokimazo uses today

Dokimazo currently integrates several European skills taxonomies, which are continuously maintained and updated by the Dokimazo team.

The taxonomies currently available are displayed at the beginning of the interaction with Dokipilot in the Training Provider module.

In the other modules (Skill Wallet and Organisation), Dokipilot uses only its own skill definitions and ESCO, which can be recognised by the European Union logo.

The taxonomies currently available in the Training Provider module of Dokimazo (International version) are:

  • ESCO (European Skills, Competences, Qualifications and Occupations) provides a standardised description of skills, recognised across all EU Member States. Learn more
  • DigComp, the European Digital Competence Framework. Learn more
  • EntreComp, the European Entrepreneurship Competence Framework. Learn more
  • Lifecomp, the European framework for the personal, social and learning to learn key competence. Learn more.

For each skill in a taxonomy, Dokimazo displays the title, description and category, where provided by the taxonomy itself.

To support identification and verification, the original source is also shown whenever possible, including a direct link to the official website where users can verify the correspondence between the skill and its source.

Why they are useful

  • Interoperability: skills linked to a taxonomy can also be understood outside Dokimazo (e.g., other HR systems, training providers, institutions).
  • Comparability: using the same standard makes it possible to compare competencies across people and organizations.
  • Transparency: each skill has a clear definition and a reference identifier.
  • Flexibility: original skill labels suggested by Dokipilot can be combined with skills from official taxonomies.

Future outlook

Over time, Dokimazo plans to integrate additional national and international taxonomies to:

  • broaden the range of available competencies;
  • adhere to sector-specific or country-specific standards;
  • ensure even greater interoperability and recognition of skills across Wallets.
